Straight A student and cadet compound archer, Amber Christensen was awarded a $1000 scholarship to help with her expenses as a 2006 Jr. World Team Member. Amber will travel to Yucatan’ Mexico with her sister Lindsey and the remaining Jr. World Team in October 2006. This is Amber’s first international team. When older sister Lindsey made the 2004 Jr. World Team, Amber traveled to England to watch her compete. At that tournament, Amber set her goal to make this team. Now her goal is to bring home a medal. In addition to being a Jr. World Team member and a straight A student at Preston High School in Preston, Idaho, Amber helps her dad with 4H Archery Classes on the weekends. She bow hunts along side her dad during archery hunting season, though she has yet to bring home a deer. Amber’s other activities include softball and basketball. Amber has worked very hard to help raise money for her expenses to compete in Mexico by selling raffle tickets for donated items, holding garage sales, and working at the county fair to sell items. She also helped her parents sell Olympic DVDs. The proceeds from this will be divided amongst all the Jr. World compound archers. The unselfish effort to personally help all her team members with fundraising was one of the highlights of her application. Amber’s sportsmanship, her attitude towards others, her success in areas outside of archery are some of the key qualities that are sought when awarding a scholarship from the Clarke Sinclair Memorial Archery Scholarship. The applicants for this scholarship were some of the best we’ve ever received. Most of the archers excel not only in archery, but in school and in service to others. The selection committee had a difficult job narrowing the selection down to one candidate.
